I was reading some stuff about cat behavior online last night — and it’s probably stuff you’ve already read. But here goes anyway: often when cats are meowing and crying, it’s because they want attention. Even negative attention is attention in a cat’s eyes. So if you scream at him, wake up to put him in another room, or in any other way modify your routine for him, Moe will take that as a sign of attention, and continue with his behavior.
My advice? Buy some earplugs and absolutely ignore him. According to a couple of different sites I was reading, sometimes it takes a week of that, sometimes a month, but eventually, if you ignore him enough, show absolutely no sign of hearing his cries, he will leave you alone when you want to be left alone.
I won’t tell him you said tha, hahat! The really bad part is, he’s so darn CUTE! All white and fluffy with a pink nose. He looks so innocent and then he chomps or hisses.
But really only his bad moments make it into the comic, because they’re funnier. Ah, the drama!
Yeah, I’ve heard it’s a good idea to ignore cats when they’re doing stuff like that, but we’ve got a pretty good system worked out now. We just lock him in the kitchen. And by “lock” I mean, put two baby gates up, one on top of the other (‘cus he was jumping over just the one). Adorable little escape artist he is (and possibly evil genius?).
Hey, want to buy my books? There are two volumes available and they're on sale at Jetpack Press. You can buy online and if you ask Ralph when you order, and he remembers to tell me, I'll put a sketch in the book and personalize it for you.
